The short answer
Take Wise if you'll pull out a fair bit of cash, or need to pay rent or a villa by bank transfer in rupiah. Take Revolut if you like an all-in-one app and stay within its plan limits. Lots of Aussies carry both, so one backs up the other.
| Wise | Revolut (Standard) | |
|---|---|---|
| Free ATM withdrawals | A$400 a month, any number of withdrawals | About A$350 a month or 5 withdrawals unverified |
| Over the allowance | 2.69% | About 2% (A$1.50 minimum) |
| Spending in rupiah | Real exchange rate plus a small, shown conversion fee | Real rate within plan limits; weekend markup possible unverified |
| Send rupiah to a Bali bank account | Yes: pay villa rent or a driver straight to their Indonesian account | Check the app unverified |
| Monthly fee | None | None on Standard; paid plans raise the limits |
| Bali ATM's own fee | Still applies | Still applies |
Sources: Countryman on Wise's 1 May 2026 changes, Revolut AU, Wise AU on Revolut, checked 2026-10-25. Revolut's own pages disagree on paid-plan limits, so treat those as approximate.
Worked example: a two-week trip
Say you pull out Rp 6,000,000 (about A$470 at 12,728 rupiah to the dollar) over the trip in two withdrawals.
- Wise: A$400 free, the other ~A$70 at 2.69% ≈ A$1.90, plus the Bali ATM's fee twice.
- Revolut Standard: ~A$350 free, the other ~A$120 at ~2% ≈ A$2.40, plus the Bali ATM's fee twice.
That's close enough that it shouldn't decide it. The Bali ATM fee and always paying in rupiah matter more.
